Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as "funny and fresh-voiced", Gary Ruschman is an American vocal artist, composer, and conductor.
Living at the artistic crossroads of opera, early music, jazz, roots, and fun, he has appeared with orchestras, opera companies, and music festivals around the world, including the Boston Pops, Kennedy Center, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Urbino Early Music Festival, Prague Choral Festival, San Francisco World Music Festival, Portland Opera, Royal Opera House Oman, American Bach Soloists, and A Prairie Home Companion.
Gary toured the globe for a decade with Cantus vocal ensemble, recording more than a dozen albums. He maintains an active singing and conducting schedule, spending much of his offstage time composing and arranging for voices.
News:Gary's arrangement of Run On (God's Gonna Cut You Down) was recently used as the theme for BBC's new American Justice documentary series, and he was awarded a Faith Partners residency by American Composers Forum. This major grant will fund the composition of six new pieces over the next 12 months.
